WILLOW BEND CHARRETTE

STAKEHOLDER-CONNECTED PLAN FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Blockwright led a short two-day charrette bringing together the development team and civil engineers to design a complete masterplan and entitlement process for phase 3 of an existing affordable housing development in South Fayetteville called “Willow Bend”. 

The product of over a decade of work by Partners for Better Housing (a local non-profit), Willow Bend has been focused on delivering modest single family homes at affordable rates in what is a very competitive real estate market.

For Phase 3 of the development, the non-profit challenged Blockwright to re-imagine the 10-year old masterplan, addressing recent headwinds in construction pricing by integrating the neighborhood’s first attached townhouse units.

One of the most critical components of the masterplan was developing site arrangements and building typologies that are resilient to several different financing and management scenarios including fee-simple (for sale), for rent, and rental via HUD “HOME” funds.
